BiscuitNinja plays...

Nightmares of all sizes...

I tried to play a game once and didn't really find the appeal...  It came back to me highly recommended by my sister who had enjoyed playing through both the game I had put down and the sequel.  So I gave it a second try...

Little Nightmares is hardly a scary game in my opinion but it does do creepy very well.  You play as a small child or something that has apparently gotten free from the extremely odd folks who are keeping you prisoner.  Your intent appears to be to escape.  As stated, the game has a very creepy ambience.  Creepy music, creepy looking mobs and all around just odd scenes that make you wonder exactly WHAT is going on here?  Encounters are difficult enough to keep the casual gamer interested but not so hard as to become frustrating for the most part.  The gameplay is smooth and fairly straight forward.  There are a few kind of gross occurrences, not very graphic but they are indicated, so you if you sensitive to those types of things perhaps you might want to stay away.

All around I really enjoyed this game and I am glad my sister convinced me to give it a second chance.  I have not played the sequel yet but I will get to it for sure.  If you are looking for some horror games without all the jump scares and but with creep factor you might consider giving Little Nightmares a try.

Next Gen Gaming...

1/11/2021

So the BiscuitNinja got himself a PS5.  As of the time of this original post I can say two things for certain...

INITIAL THOUGHTS:
One...  The device is MUCH MUCH faster than the PS4 when it comes to loading up games and transitioning throughout.
Two...  The device is MUCH MUCH larger than any console has ever been before...  WOW!  I feel like you really have to see it to believe it.  It's taller... Wider...  and Deeper than the PS4 Pro...  Pictured I have mine sitting near my PS4 for scale...
Picture
GAMES:
As of this writing I've only been able to play Watch Dogs Legion as a PS5 actual game.  So I will likely have updates to this when I play Miles Morales or one of the other PS5 launch titles.  I have a couple of those on the way to me now...  Watch Dogs on the one hand loads so much faster on the 5 vs the 4.  You can watch my videos and see me sitting and just waiting around for loading screens on the 4.  With the 5 I have yet to encounter a load that takes more than a couple seconds at most.  I did also play the Astro Bot game that they provide with the console to demonstrate its capability.  This game really does put the show on for what the controller is capable of and the things they have done to make use of each function of it.

GRAPHICS:
I will write my review of the graphics in a future update after I have played Miles Morales and have a better range of experience with the console...

CONTROLLER:
So far I have not been impressed by the controller much.  The haptic feedback is cool this time around as you can feel the vibrations moving throughout the controller rather than just then entire thing vibrating.  Additionally if you are firing a weapon, for example, you feel the vibration only in the trigger you are pulling.  That being said this is the first controller in a long time where short very active use has caused my hands to feel cramped or otherwise uncomfortable.  The previous two generations never gave me much issue but this one has something about it that has cause some slight irritation to my hands while I have played more active games.

STREAMING CAPABILITIES:
So the PS5 has made some upgrades to it's streaming capability vs the PS4.  The camera that is released with the PS5 is basically only used for streaming at this time...  It does stream in 1080p but it lacks a microphone which seems to have caused some grief among some of the fans of the PS4 capabilities.  They did however add a microphone into the controller so really I fail to see why anyone should have that complaint, but I have seen it a fair amount.  Other than that I don't see a whole lot of difference between the two...  I imagine most streamers who have a set up that feeds through their PC will continue to stream that way as the PS5 has not added anything groundbreaking to the setup.

All in all the PS5 seems like it is going to be a great console and I am fairly impressed with its functionality already.  I expect much to come with the near releases and games that I just have not gotten yet.  I will keep this updated as I learn more about it.

Who's watching the WatchDogs: Legion

10/31/2020

                                ***WARNING*** Possible spoilers ahead...

WatchDogs: Legion is about London at some point in the not too distant future.  There has been an attack and DedSec is fit to blame.  It's up to random strangers to prove DedSec innocent.  Because who better to do your dirty work than some rando off the street?

WatchDogs: Legion is every bit its predecessors.  If you enjoyed WatchDogs and WatchDogs 2, then you should enjoy legion.  The biggest difference is that this game doesn't exactly follow a single protagonist.  You are not Aiden trying to vindicate himself and revenge his family...  You are not a group of hackers trying to take down the Silicon Valley nut jobs...  Instead you are just some random folks who may or may not have a reason to help DedSec.  Each person you recruit has some sort of function of their life that comes into play so choose your team wisely!

The game plays well.  Quite a bit of loading on the PS4 although each load does not take too long.  Hopefully remedied by the PS5 when it releases.  The hacking is mostly the same from previous games.  You have a primary button that you can tap to do the most relevant action at the time or you can hold to open a small menu of choices, either bomb or attract, that sort of thing.  The melee combat does seem to be a bit wonky.  You can dodge incoming attacks but the dodge seems to get stuck on a grab every time.  The driving is still great.  I can't drive to save the pedestrians life in these games but I enjoy how everything reacts when stuck!

**EDIT**  PS5 Legion played...  Load times are MUCH faster.  Much much faster.  Almost not noticeable at all by comparison.

The worst part so far is that they delayed multiplayer until December.  Now I am the first to admit that I disliked very much the multiplayer aspects of the first game because it seemed like folks would just camp out at a mission and hack you right when you are starting.  I turn multiplayer off because I am trying to do something here!  But this one announced co-op multiplayer.  So I can hack these places with a friend?  Awesome!  Nope... It's just Chuck Testa...  At least until December...

All in all the game is very much what you can expect from a Watch Dogs game.  All the greats are back and more has been added in the form of drones and spider-bots.  It has plenty to do and you can basically customize your experience a bit with the recruitment.  So I guess... Lets save London!

Ghost of Tsushima

10/2/2020

                                ***WARNING*** Possible spoilers ahead...
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live the life of samurai?  Well you won't find it here... It's just a game after all...  However, this game may be as close as you will come.

Ghost of Tsushima is a game about Japan during the Mongol invasion.  You play as a survivor of the initial invasion of the island of Tsushima.  As the primary survivor and a samurai it is on your honor to continue the fight, even if you must do it alone and even if you must use some less appealing methods...

The land is beautiful.  It seems they spent a lot of time and effort to get the landscape to really draw you in.  There is a constant flow of falling leaves and plants swaying in the breeze.  The animation of the characters is where I found some minor flaws but they are easily overlooked for the overall aesthetic of the game.  The music is serene and fits the overall mood of the game well.  Altogether the game really does seem to be trying to convey a sort of peace with the idea of your character having to go to war for his home.

The game has plenty of content to rope you in as well.  I found myself finishing side quests so much so at the start that I had not even begun to progress the story before my sword was half upgraded and I had already begun to purchase vanity items.  The vanity items allow for you to make your character look however you would like him to, within the parameters of the game, of course.  Many of them do nothing to alter your abilities or power at all.  Several swords, masks and head gear are available to you for appearance value only.

Overall I would recommend this game to anyone who is appreciative of great story, animation and cinematic story.  If you are not into those things you may appreciate the game for its combat but I feel like you will not be getting the main point of the game.

DOOM Eternal - Rip and Tear!

9/14/2020

***WARNING*** Possible spoilers ahead...
Doom Eternal is exactly what you expect from DOOM...

Doom Eternal is the expectation identified.  You begin the game this time with some experience from the last outing.  You can double jump at the start and you have more than a pistol.  Matter of fact this game doesn't even give you a pistol...  From that point on mayhem ensues.  Monsters and demons are taking over planet earth and it's up to you to stop them...  Or rather you take it upon yourself.  By all accounts you, apparently, should not be doing this...

The thing I really enjoyed the most about this game is that it tells you a story about the DOOM slayer...  Why is he doing this?  Who is he?  Book series that have been published tell you he is just a space marine who assaulted his commanding officer and so was sent to Mars as punishment...  But this game comes after all of that.  They do well to inform you of how he got to where he is and even a little bit about why he is so powerful.  It's pretty interesting if you are into story, but you have to READ the codex to learn.  The dialogue may tell you some things but the real meat and potatoes are in the codex.

Graphics are great monsters are updated.  New monsters and old from the series make their debut in this game.  You have a sort of lair in this game so its fun to see it fill up with all the collectibles and weapons you find.  You are also able to customize your slayer with several armor suits you can unlock.  The combat is pure mayhem sometimes and others it's fairly tame.  They will test you at times for certain but other times you may just get to have a bit of fun with the enemies.  Monsters have a bit more interaction in this outing due to the fact that you can destroy specific parts of them to change the way they have to fight.

All in all Doom Eternal is the Doom game players have been asking for.  It has more substance than the Doom games of old while maintaining all the mayhem expected of a new entry into the series.  If you are looking for mindless action you can find it here, but you may find yourself interested in the story too...

Avengers! Assemble...

9/9/2020

***WARNING*** Possible spoilers ahead...
So the Avengers are at it again... Out saving the day and bringing joy and good cheer to the general population. Only this time we get to be a part of it! Square-Enix (the makers of Final Fantasy) have tried their hand at the super hero genre game and hit a near home run in this gamers humble opinion. This game has a solid story, great graphics and really solid game play. Overall very happy with the game.

The game allows for play as each of the primary Avengers from the MCU (minus Hawkeye) and Ms. Marvel. Gameplay includes portions with Ms Marvel, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow and Captain America. Each character has a similar button map while allowing for each experience to be different due to the characters power set. The game also allows for the player to choose the skills that suit their play style with a skill tree point system. They also included a sort of equipment system that allows the player to add specific traits or resistances etc to further customize your experience.

Apart from a few minor hiccups i found the game play to be very smooth and the cutscenes (of which there are MANY) to be well done. The story is interesting but typical of the genre. All around it is fun to control the Avengers as they fight bad guys but if you are looking for a brand new premise you will not find it here. There is also multiplayer function that allows for up to four players to team up via their network connection (no couch co-op) to have some real Avenger team action! Yeah!

I did encounter a few bugs that they could have done well to work out before release but nothing game breaking so far. The reality of it is most likely that the developers of these games are pushing so hard to get them out that a few bugs overlooked or missed is almost to be expected. They have already started releasing patches and fixes for the bugs that have been causing the most problems. All said and done, the game is fun with some minor issues. So assemble your team and save the world with friendship!

Your friendly neighborhood game...

9/12/2018

                                ***WARNING*** Possible spoilers ahead...
Have you ever wanted to swing through a city and fight the kind of crime that just never ends?  Then they have made the game for you!  Marvel's Spider-Man game is a piece of art.  Insomniac has given us a story deserving of something so lasting and beloved as Spider-Man.  This really is a fantastic game in every way.  Game play is smooth even throughout the web-swinging and combat.  The story is compelling with well developed characters.  Even when you are not swinging about, the story drags you into the everyday life of just another guy or girl trying to make it in the city...
Spider-Man is not your average super-hero game that just gives you the power of the hero and pits you against his enemies with no reason other than that they exist.  This game pulls you into the life of Peter Parker and really shows you how much he goes through to live the life he has been charged with.  All manner of trials come his way...  You meet old enemies and fight the bill collector throughout.  All this while attempting to make your way back into the good graces of MJ.  Not being a comic book reader myself, I feel like they have done well to capture his personality.  He has quips for the baddies and jokes during tense situations.  All the things you have come to expect from your neighborhood Spider-man.
The combat and web-slinging of the game are second to none.  They have taken all the movements Spider-man is capable of into account and allow you to fight and travel how you choose.  The physics of his web are taken into account.  This is not one of those situations where you are left wondering what your web is sticking to.  If there are no buildings or trees around you are running.  With all the tools at your disposal you have an arsenal of Spider-tech and suits to choose from for any fight to enjoy the game your way.
If you are a Marvel fan, a Super Hero fan, Spider-man fan or if you just enjoy a great game with a great story... you really owe it to yourself to play this game.

Who's watching the WatchDogs?

8/11/2018

WatchDogs has been a really great series.  Personally I think the first one was better than the second.  Aiden Pierce is a beast!  The story of the first WatchDogs is great, following Aiden in his pursuit of the people who attacked him resulting in the death of his niece.  The amount of time spent building up the story and explaining why he is doing the things he does is on point.  I also really enjoy how they explain how he feels about it as he goes along.  He know's that he is crossing a line that he may not be able to come back from, but he is willing to take that chance for justice.  This guy really goes the extra mile to catch the people involved.  The DLC with T-Bone was really great as well.  This game really does shine in a sea of average games, in my opinion.  I really do hope we get more WatchDogs in the future...  Until Next time...

Why do we follow?

7/14/2018

I am really into Assassin's Creed games.  The one featured is about an assassin who ends up at odds with the way the order does their business so he goes against them, which inevitably pushes him to the templar order.  These games are great in my opinion.  They just seem to come out far too often.  I mean I am not complaining about the content.  I love the amount of content we get, but they seem to all have the same bugs.  Maybe spend a little time fixing some of the known issues right?  I have yet to play Origins which I have heard great things about.  Here's hoping they fix it with that one...  Until next time...

Just getting started

7/12/2018

Starting a webpage for myself is a new adventure.  Being the BiscuitNinja I have a tendency to stick in the shadows but onward and upward.  This site will be evolving as I learn more about how to manipulate it and make it better.  For now I am content knowing that I have begun working on a new project.  Until next time...
