Halloween Ends...

***WARNING*** Possible spoilers ahead...

So I watched the newest entry in the everlasting Halloween series of movies.  Let me preface by saying that Michael Myers is my favorite Halloween movie monster, villain, etc...  This movie started out pretty strong.  I had hopes for the future of the franchise, dreams of a new future even!  But they effectively killed those hopes and dreams in the end...  This is not to say someone cannot continue the franchise.  We all know that these movies are able to ignore happenings in each other to continue whether by timeline manipulation or just occurring out of cannon.  Having said that, this movie was not made for fans of the genre in my opinion...  I don't know who it was made for...

​The progression of the movie starts that perhaps it is time to pass the boogie-torch from Michael to someone else...  Perhaps we can continue this for another branch of time by making the monster someone new, someone younger.  Alas, what we got was a slasher film where the 60+ year old protagonist goes head to head with a heretofore unstoppable force and somehow comes out on top... I don't know if we needed to see that but if it were not for all the blood in the film I would call it a Disney level happy ending which is not a great sell for this genre.  Michael has apparently finally lost a step without much explanation as to why...  He is apparently taking on interns and seems to get his groove back pretty early.  He is then overpowered by the new guy which is what caused me to think they were passing the torch but the new guy failed BIG TIME...  Enter again Michael.  Now we are thinking YEAH Michael is back for his mask and he is MAD!  But not mad enough as it were.

All in all I would call this movie a disappointment.  Parts of it are entertaining and in line with a movie fitting of the title "Halloween" but the larger scope of the movie makes me think someone in Hollywood is tired of these type of supernatural slasher movies and wanted to try to put an end to it once and for all...  Well I have news for you, whoever you are...  We the fans of horror will watch any and all movies that come out under this moniker.  You cannot stop the train that has already started moving.  The very nature of these movies is that they do not NEED to make sense.  So you can try as you want to stop them but Michael Myers can ALWAYS come back!!
